I recently sold an item on ebay for £50, this then went into my paypal account and was showing as £50 HOWEVER, when i went to transfer the money into my bank account i could only transfer £48.10. Why did the full £50 not go in?!

It's a PayPal fee, it's in the terms of service that you agreed to.
The person sent you £50, then PayPal takes out their service fee which leaves you with £48.10.

If you need to pay for the item faster, yes you should pay with your debit card. I'm pretty sure you can just add the card to your paypal account and then you should be able to pay for the item. Paypal will automatically charge your card and deposit the sum on the seller's account, you don't have to put the money on your paypal account.

There's a fee. It tells you this on your PayPal account. What, did you think they are providing a free service out of the goodness of their hearts?

Because your seller fees are deducted as soon as you list the item, when you sell the item, and when you get paid and that left £48 instead of £50.
