Can a gym refuse cancellation if requested on the 1st working day of the month?

Tried to cancel on the 3rd of May, so that won't have to pay for June, they provided me with a cancellation form which I filled it up and they accepted it, the next day I was told that it is in their T&C that you must provide a full calendar month of notice and therefore I have to pay for the month of June. I am not in any contract. When I said I requested cancellation on the 1st working day of the month, they told me they were open on the 1st - even know it was a Sunday

If sunday is a working day for that organisation then you are screwed im afraid. They are not being fair but technically they are not wrong to do so so theres not much you can do other than kick up a massive stink.

If they are being stubborn about it pester them with calls emails etc 24/7 they will probably decide its less hassle to just let you off as the time they need to take to answr your calls will cost more than the gym fees!! Start a protest in their foyer, chain yourself to the railings.. be creative becuase if you just take it they will walk all over you.

Just by paying their membership fee you are entering into a contract with them.

If you pay the fee the law assumes you've had the sense to read, understand and accept their terms and conditions.

Try asking this in the Law section possibly? You'd get definite answers there.
