They are fantastic machines and are worth the price if you're serious about your gadgets. But though a Mac is nice to look at, your decision should also consider what you're going to be doing and how much that's worth to you. If you have a lot of Windows software and want to take it with you, you'll have to buy a copy of Windows, or buy Mac-specific versions of those programs. So there's that. But you may not miss much if you leave Windows behind.

As for the saving up part, it's a matter of generating an income, spending less than you bring in, and putting a priority on setting money aside for the future. A $1200 computer is going to take a year to save up at $100 per month. $50 per month will take twice as long, and $200 per month will take six months. So you'll need to decide how important it is to you, and whether you can give up some entertainment now to have your prize later.

You'll also need a place to put the money, and naturally a savings account is the way to go instead of an envelope in your sock drawer. Put some money away every time you get a check, and even if you have to start small it'll add up if you stick to it.

Better to get a usable, much cheaper laptop, save the money up for a good education that leads to a good paying career and then buy any laptop you want. You don't NEED a "cool" computer now, you need to get yourself on solid ground first. Good luck.
