Question:
Can I change it so that my mother isn't listed on my bank account?

Currently, my mother is listed on my bank account, allowing her access to my financial records and to my money.
Recently we've had a falling out, and I want to get it changed because I don't really trust her with my information.

Is it possible to get her removed from my bank account without having her there with me? Or would I be better off just removing all my money, and getting a new account?

If I get a new account, do I have to rebuild credit with my bank? And if I transfer money to a new account at my bank, will they charge me a transfer fee? Is there any way around that if they do?
Thanks for the help.

You can not remove her in any way shape or form. The bank will only deal with the person on the account. Therefore your only option is to remove yourself and your money and open a new account without her having any access to this one. If you really want to be sly about it, just take out the money, keep the joint account open so she doesn't suspect you closed it or anything, and just open a separate account for yourself.

Credit has nothing to do with banks. Sure you have a history with them but that matters very little. That said, new accounts will be treated as new accounts. It is better if you just keep both the old and new one active. Rather than transfer funds, withdraw the money out of the old account and deposit it to the new one. Or write a check from the old to the new. Problem solved.

The first thing to do would be to take your money out of the account and open a new account at another bank. There is really no way to close the account without her authorization. Ask the bank to take your name off the account so that if she writes bad checks it won't affect you.

Take all of your money out of the account. Create a new bank account with another bank. having no credit is good credit so you're starting off well anyway.

Im afraid that if you create another account at the same bank, they may allow your mom access to it, so go open a bank account somewhere else.

If the account is not in your name, then you can't remove her. You will just have to remove your money. If you are the owner, then you can.

Also, banks don't charge a transfer fee when you do it from within the bank. At least that is the case at bank of america.
