I have a debit card
But I'm not too sure what an ATM card is or how I get one.
Is there a way I can use my debit card at the ATM in order to cash my paychecks from work?

Look on this site at step number 3. It will help you out, although you might need to obtain an ATM card in addition to your debit card in order for it to all work.

Usually a debit card is also an ATM card, but you need to know your PIN.

If you use it at that bank's ATM you could deposit the check to the account that the card is associated with. But there may be a limit (often $100) of how much you could withdraw from that new deposit until the deposit clears. And that may depend whether the ATM directly scans in the check (which might make the full amount available), or whether you have to put deposits in an envelope which are not checked until later.

As mentioned, if you can arrange direct deposit for your pay, then it is electronically deposited promptly and may be available sooner than depositing a check.

An ATM card is a card that can ONLY be used at an ATM and is not worth the plastic it is made of. A debit card will do EVERYTHING an ATM card will do, AND can be used to make purchases.

That said, you CAN'T cash ANY check at an ATM. You CAN deposit the check at most ATMs and can usually make a withdraw at the same time.

Try Capital One or Orchard Bank if you have no credit history. You will get a low limit to start off, but if you show over a years time that you aren't irresponsible, they may raise the limit for you. If you cannot get those credit cards, the only other one you can get is a secured card. Having a checking account and a debit card does NOT build or count as credit.

You cannot cash your paychecks at an ATM. You can DEPOSIT them at your bank's ATM, however there is a waiting period in order for the check to clear. Normally they will only let you access $100 right away.

You need to deposit the pay check in your bank account and after the amount is credited in your account you can draw using your debit or ATM card.

Yes you can. You can request direct deposit from your debit cards company and they will send you the appropriate direct deposit form so you can get your pay checks deposity onto your debit card. An ATM card is a just a debit card or bank card.

Different banks and building societies have different cards.

Go to your bank and tell them what you want the card for and they will advise all the options.
